| We are a
small writing and research company with experience
creating manuals and marketing materials for a wide
variety of product types, including radio systems,
printers, computer hardware and software, data
communications systems, and other items. We can work from
specifications, from translations, or from interviews
with your engineers. We can also take your existing
manuals and rewrite them, or train your staff to create
quality end user materials.
In addition to user manuals, we can create reference materials, tutorials, brochures, computer Help files, online documentation and multimedia products. We can also perform a wide range of research and analysis tasks for reports and white papers, and we can write articles about your product for the trade press. ExperienceBrian J. He has also worked as a Senior Analyst for Datapro Research, creating industry and technical reports, and serving as primary editor and manager of four technical report services. He has a wide range of experience in writing manuals for computer systems and electronics products, and in developing magazine articles and reports. He is currently on the editorial board for Faulkner Technical Reports (US). Current clients include many of the New Zealand computer magazines, a variety of software companies in New Zealand and in the US, and major international research services including IDC, Datapro (Gartner), Faulkner, and Seybold. Mr. Dooley is founder of the New Zealand chapter of the Society for Technical Communication. He is an independent multimedia developer, and author of six books for the US mass market: "Warriors for the Working Day" (US Civil War), "Learn Windows in a Day," "Desktop Publishing with WordPerfect for Windows," "Learn OS/2 in a Day," "The Complete Guide to Single Engine Cessnas" (with Joe Christy) and "Learn PowerPoint in a Day." | A good manual improves your company's image and helps your product to sell. Users learn how to operate your product correctly, and this reduces your support costs. Whether your product is computer hardware or software, consumer electronics or testing equipment, a good manual builds users confidence. In today's competitive business environment, you can't afford to provide your customers with anything less. |

If you are a publisher or an editor, we are available for freelance and contract writing opportunities. Brian J. Dooley has written over 1,000 magazine articles, and seven books for the mass market (five on computers, one on airplanes, and one on the US Civil War). We can work on short deadline, and have extensive journalistic and research experience. Subjects include industry and management analysis, technology reports and tutorials. |
| The trend today is toward online
documents and multimedia systems to complement or
substitute for traditional manuals. Online documents
occupy little space and can be searched readily for
necessary information. Multimedia systems offer all the
presentation advantages of combining text, video,
graphics, sound and animation.
Our online manuals and multimedia systems run on IBM PC-style computer systems. For online documents, system requirements are minimal, and the manual can be linked to a software product as a part of the Help system. Multimedia products can be developed for any area. We have created everything from multilevel Help systems and presentations up to a complete multimedia entertainment production on Pirates of the Caribbean! |
